Short answer

A Fire TV Stick is a consumer streaming device, and Amazon now sells the Amazon Signage Stick for signage. Screenbird runs on the Signage Stick and on Fire TV devices with Fire OS, and recommends the Signage Stick for screens that run all day. The newest Fire TV models run Vega OS, which signage apps cannot use.

What changed for Fire TV Sticks in signage

Amazon's signage site describes the Amazon Signage Stick as a professional media player purpose-built for digital signage and aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. Amazon states that it auto-launches the CMS in kiosk mode, and that a separate CMS subscription is required.

OptiSigns says Amazon has been removing digital signage support from Fire Sticks since the Signage Stick launched, and that OptiSigns will end Firestick support "in the near future", with no date given. OptiSigns states that since October 2024 devices running Fire OS 8 cannot auto-start apps, and the only workarounds it names are ADB commands or launching the app by hand. It also reports that on Vega OS an app sleeps frequently unless videos play every few minutes, so static images are not reliable.

Amazon's own blog of 12 October 2025 makes a related point. It says a Fire TV Stick returns to its home screen after a reboot, that consumer streaming apps can interrupt playback, and that Fire OS 8 devices such as the Fire TV 4K Max need manual system-setting or developer-tool changes to auto-launch.

Rise Vision's pricing page states that Rise Vision recommends the Amazon Signage Stick instead of the Amazon Fire Stick or Fire TVs, citing affordability, performance, reliability and built-in device management; Fire devices are not on its supported list. Xibo's blog of 21 July 2026 reports the Signage Stick reaching Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the UK and working with the Xibo Player App for Android, and EasySignage's blog lists Amazon Signage Stick availability on 14 August 2026.

Check the generation printed on the box: Screenbird's Fire TV page separates the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen) on Vega OS from earlier 4K sticks on Fire OS. On Fire OS devices, Screenbird's page states that its app can be set to launch on boot and resume after a power outage, while OptiSigns and Amazon describe Fire OS 8 auto-launch as a manual workaround. For any stick, test one screen for a week, including a power cut, before you roll out.

What the Amazon Signage Stick adds

Amazon names several CMS partners and says the Stick works with more. Screenbird's Signage Stick page describes pairing a stick in Amazon's Signage Manager and choosing Screenbird as the CMS.

What to use instead of a Fire TV Stick

The Amazon Signage Stick is the player Screenbird recommends for screens that run all day. Screenbird's media player guide also names the Google TV Streamer and the Chromecast with Google TV that has a remote as options, and says the older cast-only Chromecast cannot run a signage app. Screenbird runs on Windows, Mac and Linux devices as well. The best media players comparison covers every option.

Can I still use a Fire TV Stick for digital signage?

Yes with Screenbird on Fire OS models, and the Amazon Signage Stick is recommended for screens that run all day. Yodeck, EasySignage and Screenly also list Fire TV devices.

Which Fire TV Sticks run Vega OS?

Screenbird's Fire TV page names the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, the Fire TV Stick HD (2nd gen, 2026) and the Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen, 2026). These models run Vega OS, which does not run regular Android apps, so choose a Fire OS model or the Amazon Signage Stick instead.

Why does Fire OS 8 matter for signage?

OptiSigns states that since October 2024 Fire OS 8 devices cannot auto-start apps. Amazon's blog says such devices need manual changes to auto-launch, while Screenbird's Fire TV page states that its app can be set to launch on boot and resumes playback when power is restored.

How much does the Amazon Signage Stick cost?

Amazon's signage site lists USD 99.99 in the US, one time. The CMS subscription is separate, and Screenbird's price is EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually.

Does Screenbird support the Amazon Signage Stick?

Yes. Screenbird's setup guide describes adding the stick in Amazon's Signage Manager and choosing Screenbird as the CMS. Use one stick per screen.

What if my stick is already deployed?

Test one screen with your CMS for a week, covering a power cut. For screens that run all day, Screenbird recommends the Amazon Signage Stick.
