X2O Media filed an assignment in bankruptcy on 31 March 2026, and Real Digital Media (RDM) is winding down, according to FTI Consulting Canada and invidis. If your signage ran on either, inventory your screens and players, export your content, check player compatibility, trial a replacement such as Screenbird, then switch one location at a time.
What happened to X2O Media and RDM
X2O Media inc., a Montreal company, filed an assignment in bankruptcy on 31 March 2026. FTI Consulting Canada Inc. was appointed trustee. On 6 April 2026 the trustee started a sale process for the company's furniture, equipment and servers, and set the first creditors' meeting for 21 April 2026.
invidis reported on 2 April 2026 that X2O Media and Real Digital Media were winding down after about two decades. X2O built a visual communications platform that combined live video, data dashboards and corporate messaging, used on financial trading floors, in corporate headquarters and in broadcast environments. RDM built platforms for corporate communications and workplace displays, and its CEO, Ken Goldberg, announced his retirement "as we gracefully wind down operations at RDM".
Both companies belonged to the Stratacache Group. On 28 May 2026 invidis described Stratacache as being broken up through asset sales and liquidations, with subsidiaries in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom in liquidation. One Stratacache brand, Scala, was sold: Vertiseit AB announced the purchase on 20 May 2026 for about SEK 265 million and said Scala continues within its subsidiary Dise, which intends to move it toward a SaaS-based, device-agnostic offering.
Neither the trustee's page nor the invidis articles say what happens to individual customers' systems, hosting or support. A DNS lookup by Signage ROI on 25 October 2026 returned no address for x2omedia.com, and realdigitalmedia.com did not serve a working page. That does not show how any single installation behaves, so ask your integrator what your setup depends on and do not wait for a vendor notice.
What to do when your CMS vendor stops
- Inventory every screen and player. Record location, screen size and orientation, player model, operating system, network connection and the playlist each one shows. A spreadsheet is enough.
- Find out where your CMS runs. A vendor-hosted system depends on the vendor's servers, a self-hosted system on yours. Contracts, invoices and your integrator's documentation answer this.
- Export while the system still runs. Download every media file, copy playlists and schedules (screenshots work), note data-feed addresses and their logins, and keep the original design files. If you run the server yourself, back up its database and files before changing anything.
- Check player compatibility. List each player's operating system and compare it with the new platform's device list. Replace only the players that fail.
- Run a trial on a few screens. Put two or three screens from different locations on a trial and test your hardest content, scheduling and screen on and off times. Trial lengths are on each vendor's pricing page.
- Switch location by location. Keep the old setup in place until the new screens have played correctly for a full week, so a problem affects one site and not all of them.
What moving to a cloud platform means
Cloud signage platforms bill per screen and host your content. Most platforms in the tables below state that screens keep playing from a stored copy when the internet drops, and changes sync once the screen is back online. The dependency on one vendor remains, so keep your source files outside the platform and ask any vendor how you get your media out.
Screenbird is built for small teams that run mixed screens, with every feature in one plan from EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually.
| Platform | Per-screen price published | Offline playback stated | Runs on Windows PCs | One plan, every feature | Met |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screenbird | yes | yes | yes | yes | 4 of 4 |
| OptiSigns | yes | yes | yes | no | 3 of 4 |
| ScreenCloud | yes | yes | yes | no | 3 of 4 |
| Screenly | yes | yes | Via browser | no | 3 of 4 |
| Xibo | yes | yes | yes | no | 3 of 4 |
| Yodeck | yes | yes | yes | no | 3 of 4 |
| NoviSign | yes | yes | yes | no | 3 of 4 |
| Navori | n/a | n/a | yes | n/a | 1 of 4 |
Screenbird meets all four checks, including one plan with every feature, which none of the other platforms state. Navori does not publish a readable entry price or an offline statement on the pages read. Screenbird's player list and its 7-day free trial make it a low-cost test for a few screens before any larger commitment, and the pricing is the same EUR 12 per screen per month billed annually for every feature.
Other vendor exits in 2026
On 24 March 2026 invidis reported that NoviSign acquired the customer base of a lesser-known US CMS provider leaving the market and that NoviSign handles content and asset migration. The seller was not named, and Signage ROI has no evidence it was X2O or RDM. Samsung has separately announced end-of-sale for MagicINFO on premise on 31 December 2026; see the Samsung MagicINFO migration guide.
